So you’re in California with your friends. The sun is out, the weather is warm and you’re having Baywatch flashbacks even though as an 8 year old your parents rarely let you watch the show.

There is now only one thing to do. Get yourselves down to Venice beach (80’s exercise gear optional).

Although if you’re an 80’s/early 90’s traditionalist rollerblades may seem a more appropriate option, a fantastic way to see this iconic part of California is to do so by bike.

Petit Ermitage West Hollywood is an ideal base for the start of a Californian adventure.

As James at the frontdesk will tell you upon arrival, the rooftop is ‘legit’.

He is quite correct. Located in the middle of the WeHo scene, the rooftop is a bohemian oasis with a stunning pool, fire pit and restaurant.

The views of Hollywood on a clear day are beautiful. The rooftop garden has even been designed as a hummingbird sanctuary.

If you’re after a healthy lunch in a beautiful setting in West Hollywood, Gracias Madre is your place.

This is plant-based Mexican at its best. And it’s organic.

The interior is stunning, the outdoor dining area is earthy and beautiful and the food is pretty great too. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to move in, make friends with the staff and basically live in the premises forever.

This place is about real vibrant ingredients, presented really well.

The idea for our California adventure started a few months ago.

After arriving home after few too many tequila shots at our friend Miss A’s birthday party, a late night Flight Centre offer of $900 return flights to LA was impossible to refuse and the booking was made for a LA road trip adventure. Yes! Greatest impulse purchase of all time!

Fast-forward a few months and we’re meeting our gorgeous friend E, fresh from her Sydney flight, at the arrivals hall at LAX at 6:30am.

After renting a car and crashing at our hotel (us, not the car!) for a much needed sleep, the adventure began in Runyon Canyon.

Runyon Canyon is located in the Hollywood Hills just behind West Hollywood.

This is a great place for a hike. You’ll take in the views, get some perspective of the city and even see the Hollywood sign!
